⚔️ Tug of War
Two sides, one rope, and a public beat that speeds up. Pulling on the beat is worth everything; hammering the button moves nothing.

It is rhythm, not speed
There is a beat everyone can see and hear, and it speeds up through the match. Pulling on it delivers full force; pulling far from it delivers almost nothing. And an extra pull on the same beat is ignored.
In other words: pressing faster does not help. Pressing on time does.
Why the rule changed
The previous version was button mashing, and it was broken in two ways at once. On a computer the key auto-repeated when held — holding space sent about thirty pulls per second and beat any honest human. On a phone, where there is no auto-repeat, nobody could compete at all.
There was a third problem, less technical: pressing fast was already the entirety of Mash Race. They were two games with the same input, and one of them had to become something else.
How precision is measured
The distance to the beat is measured in your browser — the server checks that the beat you claim matches its own and that nobody scores twice on the same one. Without that, a worse connection would miss every beat without ever losing the rhythm.
The metronome is deterministic on both sides, so there is no synchronisation message: the two simply count the same way.
