Which one should you pick?

For two who want to think: chess if you both already play, quoridor if not. Quoridor is the secret of this list — the whole rule fits in a sentence (get your pawn to the far side; you also have walls to slow the other player) and it still never runs out.

To teach someone: tic-tac-toe and connect 4, which everyone already knows. For a group of four: Neon Cycle or Liar's Table — both are better with a full table and talking.

Do you need to install anything or sign up?

No. Everything runs inside the browser, on a phone, tablet or computer — no app to download, no store to go through, no mandatory sign-up. You pick a nickname and a colour and you are in. Accounts exist (Google or Discord) only to carry coins, cosmetics and trophies across devices.

Can you play with a friend who is far away?

That is the normal case here. You create the room, copy the link and send it; whoever opens it lands straight on your board, from wherever they are and on whatever device they have — one on a phone and one on a laptop works the same. Anyone who drops keeps their seat for a reconnection window instead of losing the match.

And playing alone?

All of them accept bots, at three levels. In chess the bot is a real search (it looks further ahead on hard and errs on purpose on easy); in checkers, easy will even miss a capture, and then you get to huff it.

Is there a real board, with dice and stars?

There is, and it is the longest format on the site: Neon Board. You move around a map, buy stars, use items — and between rounds the group plays a mini-game whose placement becomes movement on the board. Several modes and maps, from a short 5-round match to a 15-round campaign. It is under Create room → Campaign.

Do the card games involve real money?

No, and that is a design decision. The chips in poker and roulette start equal for everyone, exist only inside the match, cannot be bought and never become a prize. It is a table game, not gambling — and nowhere on the site does a purchase change the result of a match.
