🎚️ Nerves of Steel
A multiplier climbs on everyone's screen at once and eventually blows. Cash out before that — and preferably after your neighbour.

There is one multiplier, and it is public
Everyone sees the same number climbing, at the same time, and it blows at a single point in the round. Whoever cashed out before takes the money; whoever did not loses the round.
Watching your neighbour cash out at 1.8× is the central piece of information in the game. The question stops being 'how far can I go' and becomes 'can I go further than them'. There are five rounds.
There is no optimal moment, and that is deliberate
The blow-up is mathematically fair: cashing out at 1.3× or at 6× pays exactly the same on average. There is no secret target to be discovered.
So what decides is your position on the scoreboard. The leader banks early, secures and protects the lead; whoever is behind has to go deep chasing the comeback. A multiplier with a house edge would kill that — the correct play would become cashing out at the minimum every single round, and the game would stop existing.
Mandatory risk
You cannot cash out before 1.25×. Every round carries a slice of risk nobody can avoid — without it, the dominant strategy would be cashing out at zero and there would be no game.
About the number running on screen
The server sends ten samples per second, and a multiplier that jumps creates no tension at all. So the number you see running is calculated in your browser, from the same curve.
Your local clock starts when the round notice arrives, which makes your screen always show slightly less than the server will pay. The error is half a frame and always falls in the player's favour.
