🃏 Unique Number

Pick a number from 1 to 8 in secret. Whichever number nobody repeated pays its own value — the 8 is worth most, and that is exactly why everyone wants it.

The whole rule in two lines

Everyone picks a number from 1 to 8, in secret, at the same time. On reveal: a number chosen by only one player pays its value. A repeated number pays nobody.

Picking 8 and being alone is worth eight points. Picking 8 alongside someone else is worth zero to both of you.

The trade the game creates

The 8 is everyone's obvious target, and therefore the riskiest. The 1 almost never collides, and therefore almost never pays. The whole decision lives on that curve — and it shifts with the table: with two players you can be greedy, with four the 7 and the 8 become traps.

This is a game about reading people, not numbers. Anyone far behind needs the high values and everybody knows it.

The previous version was broken, and it is worth knowing why

The old rule was 'the highest number chosen by only one player scores one point'. With two players that was strictly dominated: picking 6 was always right — if the other repeated, nobody scored; if they did not, you won.

The actual result: both players hammered the same number for five rounds, the match ended 0–0, and the tie-break by seat order handed victory to the first slot, every time. Paying the value of the number is what created a decision where there was none.
