Simple, and therefore merciless
A 5×5 grid with the numbers shuffled. Tap 1, then 2, and so on up to 25. Tapping the wrong number locks you for one second.
The lock is what stops the strategy of hammering the grid — and it is long enough to hurt, short enough not to take you out of the game.
Finishing first does not end the match
Closing the grid opens a five-second window for everyone else to finish. The podium is arrival order, then who got furthest.
Without that window, second place was decided by where you happened to be at the instant somebody else tapped 25 — which in a speed game is effectively a draw. Five seconds is usually enough for someone who was on 21.
The screen during the window
The five-second clock sits below the board, large and without a frame, and it tips from side to side faster and faster as the time runs out. The hurry is the movement, not a smaller number.
Anyone who did not finish in time watches their own keys collapse. The match is only ended once the fall has finished, so the result screen does not land on top of it.
Where your progress lives
Each player's counter lives in the ring around their character on the scoreboard. The top of the screen shows only 'next: N' — the count used to live there and hid exactly the number the player was looking for.
