🚩 Minesweeper

Turn-based minesweeper: one cell at a time, the numbers are the clues, and finding a mine eliminates you on the spot.

Minesweeper, but with an audience

A 7×7 board with 10 mines. On your turn you reveal one cell. If it is safe it shows how many mines are in the eight neighbouring squares — the classic information — and the turn passes. If it is a mine, you are out.

The difference from ordinary minesweeper is that the board is shared: every number somebody reveals is a clue for everyone, including whoever plays after you.

The decision a shared board creates

There is a constant temptation: open the cell you deduced is safe, or open a doubtful one so as not to hand the finished deduction to the next player? Revealing an easy square advances your opponent's game as much as your own.

By the end of a match almost everyone is deducing from the same information, and luck becomes a smaller and smaller share.

How it ends

The match ends when one player is left or when every safe square has been revealed. Among survivors the ranking is by how many cells each one revealed — so playing along to the end beats spending the whole match picking the safest corner.

Against the bot

The bot picks a free cell at random, deducing nothing from the numbers. It will kill itself sooner or later — but it takes the easy squares with it, so you cannot simply wait.
